Khaleda’s Treatment Abroad: BNP submits memorandum to DCs

Shawdesh Desk:

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) submitted memorandums to all the deputy commissioners across the country on Wednesday, demanding permission for its chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad for better treatment.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the fresh programme to submit memorandums at a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Monday.

The BNP standing committee in its meeting held virtually on Monday night with party acting chairman Tarique Rahman in the chair took a decision to go for a tougher agitation programme to meet their demands, meeting sources said.

The meeting also discussed movement programmes and asked the BNP secretary general to finalise the programmes through discussions with leaders of different units and associate organisations, said the meeting resolution sent to the mass media on Tuesday.

Khaleda, a 76-year-old former prime minister, was readmitted to Evercare Hospital on November 13, six days after she returned home from the hospital.

On behalf of the family, Khaleda Zia’s younger brother Shamim Iskander submitted an application to the Home Ministry on November 11, urging the government to allow her to go abroad for treatment.

However, the law minister said the government would consider Khaleda Zia’s appeal if she submits a fresh petition after returning to jail.
